B.Tech Lateral Entry Test on April 27

January 19, 2013: Applications have been invited by the Director of Technical Education for admission to the Second Year/Third Semester of the B Tech Programmes under the Lateral Entry Scheme that aims at admitting meritorious Diploma holders to B.Tech courses to acquire a Degree in Engineering.
Lateral Entry Scheme is for admission to 10% of the sanctioned seats in addition to the total seats in Engineering Colleges. Admissions will be based on merit in the State Level Entrance Examination to be held from 10 am to 12 noon on 27th April, 2013 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Tirur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur.
The OMR based Entrance Examination will have 120 objective type questions from selected subjects of first year B.Tech course and English language. There will be questions from English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, IT and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. There will be four options for each question. Candidates should use only blue/black ball point pen to darken the bubbles in the OMR Sheet.  Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks while 1 mark will be deducted for every wronganswer.
Marking of more than one bubble against aquestion will be considered as an incorrect answer. No deduction of mark will be made for unanswered questions. Calculator, logarithm table, mobile phones or any similar electronics equipment are not permitted in the examination hall. Eligibility for admission: Applicant should have passed the Diploma in Engineering awarded by theState Board of Technical Education or equivalent after undergoing regular course ofthree years in an approved institution.Those who are appearing for the final year diploma examination are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they should produce the provisional  certificate at the time of admission. Maximum age as on the last date of submission of application will be 28 years.
Non-Keralities are also eligible to apply but they will be considered for admission to the Private Self Financing Institutions & Non-Government seats in theGovernment controlled Self-financing institutions. The admission will be subject to regulations of the Universities concerned. Candidates will be admitted only to the branch of Engineering as per the equivalency given in Annexure A of the Prospectus that can be downloaded from .
Fee Structure: The annual Tuition Fee in Government Engineering Colleges will be Rs.4000/- while it will be Rs 35,000/- in Government Controlled Self Financing Colleges and Rs.40,000/- in Private Self Financing Colleges. Students will have to pay all other fees and other charges as per statutes. The list of Engineering Institutions, courses/ branches offered and the number of seats available in each branch will be published at before online seat allotment.
Seats under Lateral Entry scheme in Government Engineering Colleges will be allotted as Government seats.The availability of Government seats in Government controlled and other Private Self-Financing Engineering Colleges will be notified before online admission.15% of seats under Lateral Entry are reserved as Management seats inAided Engineering Colleges and remaining 85% will be allotted as Government seats.
Seats are reserved for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) and SC/ST category candidates as per rules. (Ezhava- 9%, Muslim-8%, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian-2%,B.H-5%,Backward Christian- 1%,Kudumbi-1%,Scheduled Caste-8% and Scheduled Tribe- 2%). 3% seats are reserved for physically disabled candidates.
Candidates claiming reservation under physically disabled quota should have a minimum of 40% disability. One seat each is reserved for Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology branch for defence quota. 80% of the available seats in Information Technology branch are reserved for the Diploma Holders in Information Technology.
Application Fee: Application fee is Rs.750/- for General candidates and Rs.375/- for SC/ST candidates. It may be paid in‘Shakti Account’ of the Joint Controller of Technical Examination at any branch of State Bank of Travancore. Applicants of ST category, having annual income below Rs.40, 000/- are exempted from paying application fee on condition that they produce income certificate.

Downloaded hard copy of the online application submitted along with the relevant certificates and Shakti chalan form should reach ‘The Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Kaimanam,Thiruvananthapuram- 695040’, by Registered Post/ or in person by 5 pm on 16th February, 2013. Admit Cards for the Examination can be downloaded from or from 24th April to 26th April, 2013. The rank list will be published by the Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram, on 10th May, 2013.
The Rank List shall be prepared with all the candidates, in the order of marks secured in the entrance test, except those who secure zero and negative marks.Candidates who secure a minimum of 15% marks in the entrance test alone will be eligible for allotment to seats in various engineering colleges for which allotment is made by Director of Technical Education. If seats still remain vacant in this category even after spot allotment, Management shall be given permission to admit students from the common rank list themselves.
The allotment of seats will be made by the Director of Technical Education on the basis of the rank list published and availability of seats in the various categories through, according to the options given by the candidates. Candidates who are eligible for allotment on the basis of the rank list, will have to enter their options online.
Allotment memo will be published in the website. No duplicate memo will be issued.Once the candidate gets an allotment, he/she will have to join the particular institution and then only he/she will be considered for further allotments. Once the candidate gets an allotment, all the lower options will automatically be cancelled and re-allotment will only be done for higher options.If the candidate is satisfied with the allotment he/she gets in a particular allotment and if he/she does not want to be considered for further allotments, he/she will have to cancel all the remaining options.After each allotment there will be provision for rearranging the options.
